Located between Green Valley View and Pillar Rocks, Guna Caves/Devil's Kitchen is another popular sightseeing place in Kodaikanal. It is place that must be visited by adventure lovers as well as nature enthusiasts. It is an ideal location for taking pictures as well as offers untouched nature and thrill of adventure.
It is a deep narrow valley hidden amid the majestic Pillar rocks and Green Valley. It has small furrows that are quite dark and deep with mist and fog covering from outside leading to name Devil’s Kitchen. Apparently many bats inhabit these trenches. Along with bats, one can also spot various other kinds of birds and even animals. Hence, visitors need to be careful while venturing into this area. Devil’s Kitchen is also known as Guna Caves. The name came after the movie Guna starring Kamal Hassan, in which these caves were shown as the home of the kidnapper.
This place also has mythological significance as it is also said that Pandavas from Sacred Hindu epic Mahabharata have also stayed at this place.
Reaching Guna Caves, Kodaikanal
Guna Caves / Devil’s Kitchen is located on the Pillar Rocks road. It is easily accessible by road. However, you need to trek down if you wish to explore the caves from closer. If planning to visit Guna Caves / Devil's Kitchen, it is advisable to start the trek to the cave from the downwards trail. There are a few trekking trails from Pine Forests as well to Guna Caves.
